A gynecologic (pelvic) ultrasound uses sound waves to show the uterus, ovaries and lining on a screen, without radiation. At Sinsoe Women's Clinic in Gangnam, Seoul, it is done by a female OB-GYN in the exam room, usually transvaginally, and she explains the images to you right away with an English-speaking coordinator at hand. The fee is ₩100,000 from the clinic's published fee schedule (June 2026); confirm before your visit. The clinic uses PHILIPS Affiniti ultrasound in its health screening center.
A GYN ultrasound is an imaging test of your pelvic organs. It shows the size and shape of the uterus, the thickness of its lining, and the ovaries, including follicles and cysts.
Most scans are transvaginal: a slim probe, covered and lubricated, is placed just inside the vagina for the clearest view. If you have never had sex or prefer not, an abdominal scan over the lower belly can be used instead.
Because your doctor does the scan herself, she can link what she sees to your symptoms and explain the result before you leave.
Ultrasound is one of the most useful tests in gynecology. These are the common reasons.
| Reason | Example |
|---|---|
| Check-up | As part of a yearly women's health check |
| Bleeding | Heavy, irregular or post-menopausal bleeding |
| Pain | Period pain, pelvic pain or pain with sex |
| Follow-up | Tracking a known fibroid or cyst over time |
| Fertility and IUD | Checking follicles, the lining or IUD position |
Ultrasound packages, including pelvic, breast, thyroid and abdominal scans, are also available at the health screening center.
Your doctor chooses the type that gives the clearest answer for you.

Most womenThe probe moves over your lower belly, often with a fuller bladder. Used if you have not had sex or for a very large uterus.
If you prefer no probeCombine pelvic with breast, thyroid or abdominal scans in one visit. See breast exam for breast ultrasound.
Full check-upThe whole visit usually takes under an hour, and you leave knowing your result.
Most women feel only mild pressure. If you have pelvic pain, some areas may feel tender, and your doctor will go gently.
You can go back to your day straight after. There is no recovery time and no radiation.
Most findings are common and benign. Here is what usually happens next.
Continue your regular check-ups.
Often watched. Treatment if it causes symptoms. See fibroid removal.
Many go away on their own. A recheck in a few weeks. See ovarian cyst treatment.
Your doctor may suggest a recheck or removal. See uterine polyp removal.
Ultrasound has limits: small endometriosis spots and some early changes do not show, and further tests may be advised.
A scan is quick and easy to fit into a busy week or a short trip.
Bring your Alien Registration Card. Your scans are kept so each one is compared with the last.
Bring your passport. Results are explained the same day, so you can take them home.
