What is laser vulvar resurfacing?
The vulva is the outer genital area: the labia majora and minora, the clitoral hood and the skin around the vaginal opening. Vulvar resurfacing treats this outer skin, while vaginal laser treats the inside wall of the vagina.
A fractional laser makes a pattern of tiny treatment points in the skin. As the skin heals, it builds new collagen and replaces older surface cells, which may improve texture, wrinkling or uneven color.
It is also being studied for some medical skin conditions, such as lichen sclerosus, alongside standard treatment. Vulvar skin is thin and sensitive, so settings must be gentle and any skin change should be diagnosed first.
